British Columbia Institute of Technology to Integrate EngView Packaging Design Software into Curriculum

The EngView team is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). The Canadian school is incorporating EngView Package & Display Designer into its curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience using cutting-edge software developed specifically for the design and production of packaging and point-of-purchase (POP) displays.

At EngView, sharing our knowledge and expertise and fostering innovation has always been central to our mission. We are committed to supporting educational institutions around the globe by donating our software to universities and colleges. This initiative enables students to work with the latest technologies, preparing them for careers in the steady-growing packaging industry.

EngView’s Head of Packaging, Boriana Stoimenova, shared her excitement about the partnership: “We are happy to collaborate with the British Columbia Institute of Technology and to empower students with our packaging design software. This partnership will not only enhance their technical skills but also provide them with the tools to fully express their creativity and bring their innovative ideas to life.”

BCIT is deploying EngView Package & Display Designer as part of the Graphic Communications (GCOM) Diploma Program. GCOM is a two-year program that prepares students for a wide range of roles in the commercial print and packaging sectors. Students take courses focused on every step of the manufacturing process, from preparing high-quality graphics to actually printing and final finishing. Recently, the program has undergone a major program change, with an increased focus on premium packaging, which is where EngView comes in.

BCIT deploys EngView in its curriculum

Students are introduced to EngView at the beginning of their second year in a course focused on Structural Packaging Design. Students will be tasked with preparing sidelines for a range of packaging styles, utilizing EngView’s Parametric Design Library, Synergy Compound Components, and 3D modelling functionality. Once they've completed their designs, students will send their files to a Summa cutting table to output prototypes to verify their fit and functionality. With these basic skills in place, students will then be challenged with creating a variety of custom packaging and POP displays using the EngView platform's extensive CAD tools throughout the rest of their second year of study.

Cam Rouse, Faculty, Graphic Communications at BCIT discussed the decision-making process for selecting to work with EngView: "With the introduction of the Structural Packaging Design course, we were exploring software solutions that would allow us to showcase the full extent of modern packaging design. We were looking for something that allowed for CAD drafting, 3D modelling, Adobe Illustrator integration, and a high level of automation. EngView ticked all of these boxes and made our decision to work with them very easy when they generously donated educational licensing to our institution."

Rouse added, "We've been thrilled to work with Kris and the rest of the EngView team—they've been incredibly supportive and responsive to any question or need we've had. The software is top-notch and easy to use, and our students love working with it. We couldn't be more grateful for EngView's support of our program and our students' education."

Since 1964, BCIT has been at the forefront of educating and training experts, professionals, and innovators who shape industries across British Columbia and beyond. By integrating EngView’s specialized CAD software into their programs, BCIT continues to uphold its commitment to providing students with practical, industry-relevant skills.

This partnership is a significant step forward in EngView’s efforts to empower the next generation of packaging professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in their future careers.
