Dimension types

In EngView, dimensions fall within the following types.

Type

Description

Possible for/between the following objects

Dimension mode(s) to use

Measures the direct distance between:

  • Arbitrary control points of a single object or of two different objects — but not between their constructional lines/curves.

  • Two or more parallel lines.

  • Two or more points or control points, which lie on the same imaginary axis.

  • Two points.

  • A point and a line.

  • An arc/circle/fillet and an arbitrary object.

Measures the length of a single line segment.

  • A single line segment

  • Two points

  • Two or more points lying on a single line — Multi Lines mode

  • A point and a line/axis — in this case the dimension line is perpendicular to the line/axis

  • A control point of an object and a line/axis — the dimension line is perpendicular to the line/axis

  • Two or more parallel lines/axes — Multi Lines mode

  • Two control points of a single object

  • Two control points of two different objects

  • Two arcs, circles or fillets

  • An arc, a circle, or a fillet and a control point

  • An arc, a circle or a fillet and a line or an axis

(Single) Object for single line segments
Associative (Two Objects)
Multi Lines for parallel lines and for points lying on the same axis.

These measure the offset horizontal or vertical distance along the coordinate axes between:

  • Arbitrary control points of a single object or of two different objects — but not between their constructional lines/curves.

  • Two points.

  • A single line segment.

  • An arc/circle/fillet and another arc/circle/fillet.

  • An arc/circle/fillet and a point.

NOTE: When possible, avoid setting these dimension types. They will change if the objects that define them are rotated — for example, as a result of design modifications.

  • Two points

  • Two control points of a single object

  • Two control points of two different objects

  • A single line segment

  • Two arcs, circles or fillets

  • An arc, a circle or a fillet and a control point

(Single) Object for single line segments

Associative (Two Objects)

Measures the angle between two lines/axes.

  • Two non-parallel lines/axes, either intersecting or not

Associative (Two Objects)

Measures the radius of a circle, an arc or a fillet.

  • A circle

  • An arc

  • A fillet

(Single) Object

Measures the diameter of a circle, an arc or a fillet.

  • A circle

  • An arc

  • A fillet

(Single) Object
