Entering formulas in design frames

Type formulas as text into the contextual edit bar. Bookend the formula with the $ symbol.

Typing Formulas

In design frames, formulas are inserted as text that begins and ends with the $ sign. In a print drawing, the calculation of the formula is displayed.

To place a formula into a design frame

  1. In a design frame drawing, do any of the following:

A contextual edit bar appears above the graphical area.

  1. In the edit bar, type the formula that you need in the text box. Follow these rules:

HOW TO TYPE FORMULAS: Use the '$' symbol to enclose the formula that extracts a value. For example, in the input $ExampleFormulaContent$, the text inside the '$' symbols is the formula; any text outside the $ signs will be displayed as text. Example: Typing The length of all objects in the Cutting style is $OneUp2.Length(Cutting, in), n2$ in. returns the following: The length of all objects in the Cutting style is 21.32 in.

NOTE: If a formula cannot be calculated — for example, due to syntax errors — a text appears indicating the error.

  1. After you have typed the formula, use the mouse to take it to where you want to position it on the page, and then click to fix it.
