Manual recovery of unstructured layout

You can recover an unstructured layout drawing manually. You do it by selecting groups of objects that you want to be converted into layout 1ups. Once a group of objects is processed as a layout 1up, the program uses it to populate the layout drawing in the places that are identical to the original selection.

To use manual recovery of unstructured drawing

1. Do one of the following:

• On the Layout toolbar, click New Layout Drawing .
• On the Layout menu, click New Layout Drawing.
• Press CTRL+L+N.

The Select Layout dialog box appears.

2. Click the Create blank option, and then click OK.

An empty layout drawing opens.

3. In the layout drawing, do one of the following:

• On the Layout toolbar, click Unstructured Layout Recovery .
• On the Layout menu, click Unstructured Layout Recovery.

The Automatic Unstructured Layout Recovery wizard appears at the Unstructured layout page.

4. Click Manual.

NOTE: As a result, the unstructured layout layer appears in light grey in the background of the layout drawing. It can serve as a reference drawing during the positioning of the final layout. To remove this reference drawing, in the graphical area right-click anywhere, and then click Clear Unstructured Layer on the context menu.

5. In the unstructured layout drawing, select the objects that you want to combine into a layout 1up.

NOTE: Ensure that the selection you make shapes up a meaningful 1up structure. This selection will be recognized across the unstructured layout drawing. This guarantees that the recovered layout drawing will be usable.

6. On the Layout toolbar, click Manual Layout Recovery .

The Manual Unstructured Layout Recovery wizard appears, displaying the 1up Name page.

7. (Optional) In 1up name, type a new name for the 1up.
8. Click Next.

The Manual Unstructured Layout Recovery wizard displays the 1up Placement page. Here you assign the positions of the part in the layout.

9. Consider your situation:

• To add the part in all the places where it is recognized in the layout, select All, and then click Finish.
• To add only the originally selected set of objects to the layout, click Original only, and then click Finish. Note the greyed areas for the places in which the original drawing is recognized but which will remain empty.
  
• To not add the 1up in any place where it is recognized, click Do not add parts, and then click Finish. After this option has been selected, you can proceed with the design of the layout by placing 1ups by hand.

10. (Optional) To designate more originally selected sets of objects as layout 1ups, repeat Steps 5–9 as many times as necessary.
