On-object snapping

On-object snapping is a point-focused mode which you can use to detect an on-relation or an on-relation on extension between the control point you are about to position and a reference object. After you click the reference object, the current line or axis is snapped perpendicular to the reference object or, respectively, its extension.

Possible object/part modes where On Object snapping can be used:

All geometric object modes except fillets, chamfers and quick offsets. All modes for manual placement of Layout and Print parts (Place Part and Place Part by Rectangle).

Possible reference objects:

Geometric objects, Layout parts, Print and Design parts, the coordinate axes.

To use on-object snapping

  1. Turn on an object-drawing or a part-placement mode and begin drawing the object, respectively, placing the part.

NOTE: Depending on whether you want to snap and set the relation for the first point of the current object or for a subsequent control point, either start drawing the object/placing the part, or go to Step 2.

  1. Do one of the following:
  1. Point to the reference object to highlight it.

When the reference object is highlighted, the control point currently being drawn will be snapped to it according to the position of the pointer. Changing the pointer's position at this stage will drag the control point along the reference object or its extension.

  1. Click the highlighted reference object to confirm the snapping — the object preview will stay snapped until you finish the definition of the object or placing the part.
