Measuring two objects
You can measure:
- The direct distance between two objects — for example, two parallel lines, a line and a circle.
- Two control points, regardless of whether they belong to a single object or to different ones.
- The horizontal and vertical offset distance (Dx and Dy) between two objects or points as projected along the coordinate axes.
- Radii and diameters of ellipses.
- Angles.
Measuring the distance between two objects or control points
- Do one of the following:
- On the , click Two Objects Measure Tool
.
- On the Dimensions menu, click Two Objects Measure Tool.
- Click the first objects — a control point, a line or an axis, or two parallel lines or axes, or an arc, a circle or a fillet and a second object (an arc, a circle, a fillet, a control point, a line or an axis).

- (Optional) To make the dimension line text appear always centered, ensure that Centered Text
on the contextual edit bar is pressed in.
- (Optional) Move the mouse pointer around to view the variant types of measuring.
- To end the measuring, do one of the following:
- Click Select
.
- Press ESC twice.
Measuring offset distances between two objects or control points
- Do one of the following:
- On the , click Two Objects Measure Tool
.
- On the Dimensions menu, click Two Objects Measure Tool.
- Click consecutively the two objects — these can be two control points; two arcs, circles or fillets; or an arc, a circle, a fillet and a control point — to measure the distance between them.

Notes
- If you want to measure distance between a point and line, you can measure only the direct distance between them along the perpendicular from the point to the line. For similar reasons, you cannot measure a horizontal/vertical offset distance between:
- Two parallel lines or axes.
- An arc, a circle, or a fillet and a line or an axis.
- You can also measure a horizontal/vertical offset distance between the beginning and end points of a single line segment, when you use single-object measuring. In this case, click the line and then use Steps 3-5 from the procedure above. For details, see Measuring horizontal/vertical offset distance between the starting and end points of a single line.
