Recovering unstructured layouts

Imported ungrouped layout objects

When you import drawings in non-packaging industry file formats, their layout drawings may appear not as individual layout 1ups but as unstructured groupings of individual objects — for example, lines or curves, or both. File formats that do not support structured layouts are, among others, DXF, EPS, PDF and AI.

In EngView you can recover unstructured layout objects and turn them into regular layout 1ups. The program automates the recovery by recognizing any closed contours and processing them into layout 1ups. If a layout drawing has no closed contours, you can draw the objects that are needed for such contours. You can recover layout 1ups also manually, by selecting the objects that you want to form a structured layout 1up.

Complementary use of automatic and manual recovery

The automatic and manual recovery can be used complementary: first you let the program process the available closed contours, and then you can select groups of objects that will be processed as layout 1ups. Having used automatic recovery, you proceed by following the manual recovery procedure (see Step 5 and the following).
